March Meet 24
When you get a call from legendary drag racer Rick Guasco inviting you to the annual 63rd March Meet sponsored by Good Vibrations Motorsports, you go. Rich has been campaigning his iconic AA/Fuel Altered ‘Pure Hell’ since 1963. The March Meet is actually a little older and was first convened at Famoso Dragstrip (Bakersfield) as the U.S. Fuel & Gas Championships in 1959.
74th Grand National Roadster Show 2024
There were nine roadsters in contention for the America’s Most Beautiful Roadster Award and a staggering 13 vehicles entered for the Al Slonaker Memorial Award. ARP Racing Products sponsors both awards and each comes with a substantial trophy and a cash prize of $12,500 as well as the prestige of winning what has become the world’s most significant custom car and hot rod show—‘The Grand Daddy of Them All.’
RPM Nationals Flathead Drags ’23
The RPM Nationals Flathead Drags is one of our favorite events. Billed as a drag race for pre-1936 flathead V-8 and 4-cylinder hot rods and racecars, it’s held at Santa Margarita Ranch 200 miles north of Los Angeles.

RPM Barona Drags ’23
The third annual RPM Barona Drags was a great success as the So-Cal sun shone on this Mecca of 1/8-mile, old-school drags.
TROG Flabob Airport Drags ’23
Could the second TROG Flabob Airport Drags be as good as the first? You be the judge but it was pretty darn close with close to 200 traditional style hot rods dragon’ it out over the 1/8-mile.

100 Races and Counting; The 100th Running of The Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb
The PPIHC is one of the most difficult races to conquer, the 12.42 miles course has 156 turns and some of the most dangerous hairpins in motorsports. The race begins at over 9300 feet and ends at 14,115 feet, which earns its slogan, “the race to the clouds”.

Rømø Motor Festival ’22
The annual Rømø Motor Festival was not what I expected. I was expecting a smallish, back-door beach race with maybe a couple hundred participants. Instead, there were in excess of 20,000, some said maybe as many as 30,000 people there for what is essentially a one-day affair.
Holley Hot Rod Reunion ’22
Despite ‘Boiling Green’s’ hot n’ humid weather the Holley National Hot Rod Reunion has always been a great event with fast and furious ‘track-tion’ and a massive car show and swap meet.

They came from near and far… And why did they come? For the RPM Barona Drags, of course.
Dirty Weekend: SCTA El Mirage Season Opener
The course is only 1.3 miles long and there’s only one mile in which to stop so attaining speeds in excess of 300 mph and stopping is quite an achievement especially when the surface is dusty clay and silt and not measurably sticky asphalt.
Sacramento Autorama 22
The O’Reilly Auto Parts Sacramento Autorama is a very different show from its southern brother the Grand National Roadster Show (GNRS) but both got their start in the Bay Area 70-plus years ago in 1950.
